Was it a sign?
Last night a rather nasty little storm came through. It was the first storm we've had in many, many months, and was what I like to refer to as a 'firestarter'. In other words, it was all lighting and thunder, with not a lot of rain.
And one of those lightening strikes hit very close to home last night. So close in fact, that it temporarily took out my modem and telephone even with a surge protector on it and the computer. My computer was unaffected, but I think the cabling for the phone and modem has been fried as my phone is making an awful hissing noise and my modem keeps disconnecting.
This means that I'm going to be gone more than here for a spell. If there's one thing that will keep me offline, it's a tempremental service, so until we've found the source of the problem, i.e. whether it is the wiring inside the house (which will need to be replaced), or whether the lightening actually took out one of the phone sub stations somewhere in the areas (which could take months for them to repair), I won't be forcing myself to struggle with sites that were already slow to load. I'll be staying offline a bit more and restricting myself to places that load fast and easily.
I'm okay ... just a bit irked by this added unnecessary expense if it is the cabling in the house. I feel like the internet has not really been my friend of late (there have been a few 'issues' of late), and I'm beginning to wonder if circumstances are trying to tell me something I've been not wanting to hear.
Believe me, it's really quite frustrating to sit here looking at my modem only to see that I cannot send this post because I have to wait for the service to connect yet again.
