Business as Usual

There's a pile of orders in my car to be posted today. Four more are in parts on my desk, and 3 more still need to be started.

Art and Authoring

Did no artwork this weekend. No writing. Nada. Itching to get back to it.

Home and Health

Second weekend at the hotsprings - and it was also just lovely.

We came back... and bought a new bed. A larger bed. A Tempurpedic bed. It wasn't exactly spur-of-the-moment - we've been talking about it almost since we bought the last one. The last bed was nice... but it wasn't a Tempurpedic.

The new one is FABULOUS. Both of us being tall people with long limbs, the Queen was sometimes crowded. Not so, with the King. And it's so... squishy. I've slept comfortably both nights. I had screaming back pain yesterday, but I am certain that's more to do with wrestling the new bed up the stairs and the old bed down them than sleeping in the former. It was a helluva lot of work. I dropped one of the foundations on the tip of my finger, and swore copiously and uncreatively (You'd think I could come up with some good cussing, but I was more concerned with MY FINGER IS GOING TO FALL OFF than how to best express it). I iced it immediately, verified that it wasn't broken, and then ignored it. It promptly went completely numb and I still have no feeling in the tip, 3 days later. I can function fine without it, and I'm keeping an eye out to see that it doesn't turn black or fall off.

Had a lovely time at the Voodoo Moon belly(and other)dance show - I was prop monkey and they applauded for me. I also got congratulations after the show - all very silly and in good fun. I swear I knew half the audience and 90% of the performers. I keep thinking of myself as not social.

Planning

Workout tonight. Gingerly.

Nook Vs. Kindle [Nov. 9th, 2009|02:32 pm]

[mood | confused]

Looking into getting an eReader. I still enjoy reading books through the kindle feature on my iPhone but wouldn't mind having the option of a larger eBook too.

If I got a Nook, would I be able to (easily) read my Kindle bought books on it too?

NeonDragonArt Etsy Shop [Nov. 9th, 2009|03:34 pm]

[mood | optimistic]

Time for some shameless self promotion!

I opened up a NeonDragonArt.com etsy shop for discontinued or limited quantity items. Etsy is very easy to use, and I am very excited about it. In the etsy store you will find some con-only items, discontinued (and thus discounted) items, and some popular items from the neondragonart store.

Edit: Sold both pillows! Thank you very much. At the etsy store we have a pair of throw pillows left over from Youmacon. We walked into the show with 25 pillows and left with two; they were very popular! Because the pillows must be ordered in bulk, we can't place orders for them often and thus we don't carry them in the NeonDragonArt.com Store on neondragonart.com itself. Because of this, they're pretty much a con-only item. They make great xmas gifts! Very soft.
Hugs Please Pillow

We also have t-shirt designs that we've discontinued carrying from conventions. We're selling these shirts at etsy for a discounted price. For available sizes, check the description. You can still order any design on any color of shirt off the NeonDragonArt.com site store, but you will pay full price.

There's also fun things like keepsake boxes, dogtags, and buttons available as well.

Click here to take a peek at our etsy shop. Thank you!

OK, this one is really the last TJ review this year. No more reviews until er... next month when I see Alice Cooper again ;)

Funny how I had the same room as last year when I went to see Jools Holland, must be my lucky room (number 18). It's really just your basic room : a bed and no windows, but the point is not to stay in, so I headed to the venue at the time when doors were opening. I'd rather wait inside the venue anyway. This is a strange little festival, very exclusive and "posh". It is sponsored by a guy who makes cigars... can you imagine who must have been really happy about that? (Tom loves cigars) Not me in any case, cigar smoke can make me very sick, and I was a bit worried when half of the audience strode in sporting all kinds of cigars :(

Opening band was Tower of Power, but as the director of the festival said, this isn't really an opening act, this is a legendary band, they are just as big as Tom. They even worked together on occasions. I think they were a bit disspointed at first, for half of their set the audience was sitting. The singer asked us to get up and dance, but it took two attempts to get people to stand! I was motioning that I'd love to but certainly not if I was the only one! Thankfully by the end of the set there was a line of us dancing in the front. You know me I love to dance, I wasn't going to be told twice.

That was a nice "warm up", more like fiery hot, and apparently Tom liked that. The festival president introduced Tom by saying that he (Tom) had been watching us and couldn't wait to perform for such a motivated audience. According to the president, Tom even commented that it reminded him of Vegas! See? That's just what I thought too last year. It is similar in the set up. There are tables everywhere and it's a small venue (about 1'500- 2'000 at the most), at the front there is a zone of perhaps 5 meters where people can (and usually do) mass up at the begining of the concert, to dance.

And indeed, Tom had just done the first two songs and the photographers had gone and you had people getting up and walking to the stage already. I don't know how I could be that lucky but I walked right up to Tom and stood myself literally at his feet. I'm not always that cheeky, but this was such a big dream of mine! What an incredible feeling to be so close and watching him sing "Thunderball"! You are literally blown away by the sheer power!

Reviews: Abba Mania & Turandot [Nov. 9th, 2009|04:55 am]

BPAL of the Day: Pa-Pow

Onward...

11/6: Abba Mania. This was another one of those 'why not?' shows. Their songs can be good fun if you don't expect deep, introspective lyrics. Again they provide a great snapshot of their time in both music and fashion. I confess I don't know a whole lot about the real Abba so I cannot say how close they were to the real thing, but they seemed to do a great job. They seriously have the coolest boots! It was a fun show.

What wasn't so fun was that the stone in the ring I bought in Salem fell out. I was pretty frantic as that was not a cheap ring. I was told by the lady sitting next to me that the young girl on the opposite side of me picked it up. They didn't come back until the second set had already started so I had to wait until nearly the end to ask about the stone. The girl obviously didn't want to give it up, but her mom fished it out of her pocket. What a relief that was! I found the crowd rather nice and polite at this show in general.

*** 1/2 stars.

11/7: Turandot. Now for something completely different. They have a program at the Capitol Center called "The Met: Live in HD' where they screen various operas, some live, some prerecorded earlier in the day. This one was prerecorded. I wasn't quite sure what seat to pick. This being a movie I didn't know if front row center would be a neck breaker so I chose my favored Row B seat 1 on the right isle and hoped for the best. It turned out very well. Everyone else there was around 7-10 rows back so I had the whole front of the theater to myself and the view was perfect.

Turandot is a Puccini opera set in Imperial China. The story is pretty typical opera fare with a prince falling in love with Princess Turandot who has proclaimed that any suitor who does not correctly answer her three riddles correctly gets his head chopped off. (Such a desirable and kind-hearted lady!) Of course this does not deter our prince. The first two acts were actually pretty interesting and had a little more story than most of the operas I have seen. Unfortunately the third act quickly dissolved into typical opera melodrama.

The costumes and props were absolutely gorgeous! The talent top-notch and the visuals stunning. One would expect no less from the Met. There were a few unfortunate technical glitches when the sound and/or video cut out. (The worst was right in the middle of the prince's riddle answering.) I am sure that couldn't be helped.

A visual feast and a pleasant and peaceful evening.

**** Stars.

Since it is getting very late again I'll finish up with my Legend of the Seeker review tomorrow.

Ramble about crafts, glass pendant necklaces, and handmade soap. Probably rather dull, and thus I cut to save your flist! )

Thus ends a very rambly ramble. I geek out over dumb things. It's 4AM. I wonder if I'll still be geeking out about soap in the morning; everything's cool at 4AM.
