| | accomplished | ] | We finally posted chapter 10 of our novel The Zarryiostrom on my webpage today. I had meant to have a painting to go with it, but work has been too hectic, and the painting that I had finished for Chapter 10, I now loathe, and have since deleted it. However, that has left me without a painting for now. So here finally, is the chapter for your reading pleasure, sans image sadly, and I am horribly sorry for the delay! It will be quite a while until we post Chapter 11, as chapter eleven is something every business wants to avoid! Hahaha
The Zarryiostrom Chapter 10: Promises
I wanted to post a little snippet from Chapter 10, that I am uncommonly fond of. It deals with Tais, one of my favorite of all my characters, and I think Stevens' writing is wonderfully descriptive of Tais' state of mind. To set the scene, (from Chapter 7, Resolve) Princess Tais was imprisoned in a tower for defying her family and making a most unsuitable marriage. Her husband was killed by her brother, and her baby died. Tais was set free by her mother and has been confined her to quarters ever since. In this scene, this is the first time she has left, (or been allowed to leave) her personal quarters. (I did some minor edits so it would make more sense out of context. )
Note: the image below, while of Tais, is not from Chapter 10, nor does it have anything to do with the scene other than being a picture of Tais. This image is actually a detail from a much, much (8,000 pixels across and crammed with detail!!) larger painting called "Pretty" which is the illustration for Chapter 18.
"As she left her chambers and walked to the throne room, Tais caught sight of dozens of servants and guards surreptitiously looking at her from every doorway and hall. None of them said anything, but she could feel their eyes upon her from every angle, and as she passed small groups whispers broke out. As more and more people came to see her, she realized what was happening. Apparently, everyone wanted to see the “fallen” princess with their own eyes. Everyone wanted to be the one that could tell his or her friends that they had seen the living example of a highborn brought low. She wondered idly just how these people expected her to act. Should she be raving like a beast? Crying, wailing, or gnashing her teeth? Did they expect her shame to show on her face like some sort of a badge or a scar? Whatever it was they expected, she vowed not to give them the satisfaction of a show or a scene. They weren’t worth it. They were beneath her. Still, the silent stares became uncomfortable during the long walk from her chambers. She never bothered to return their looks or listen to their whispers, but it was hard. She felt like a prisoner being escorted to the gallows, with crowds of people gathering to view the spectacle."
On a completely unrelated note, the following images are now available as prints:

Earth Moon Since Earth Moon is the final of my Elemental Moon Faeries set (say that 9 times fast!) I am offering the set of 4 prints at a discount. Go here to see the special. And I think with this, my second set of four Faeries on Moons, I have about exhausted this genre, at least for now. Maybe, just maybe, at some point in the future, I may paint more Faeries on Moons, but I am fresh out of ideas for them at this point!
